FAQs

What is Fascia?

Fascia is our connective tissue, it’s a densely woven web-like system that encompasses everything in the body, bones, muscles, nerves everything down to a cellular level and it includes all the internal organs as well such as the heart, lungs, liver and cranial system.

What is Myofascial Release (MFR)?

MFR is a very effective technique that engages the fascial system by using sustained pressure into the fascial restriction to facilitate the elimination of pain and pain patterns and to achieve more flexibility back into the body.

How does the fascial system get restrictions?

In a healthy state fascia is relaxed and flexible and allows the body to move freely. Fascia can become restricted in a myriad of ways, including recent and past physical trauma, surgeries, or accidents, repetitive motion, poor posture (tech neck), stress, inflammation and scar tissue are some of the ways that fascia can become restricted.

What is unwinding?

Unwinding is a unique and powerful experience that can facilitate the release of physical and emotional holding patterns in the body, and enhance our consciousness. As taught by John Barnes PT, unwinding is based on the principles of position dependent memory and tissue memory where the body remembers the original position of the trauma and uses the body’s innate healing wisdom to release old holding patterns. Old traumas and injuries can get stuck in our subconscious and in turn create holding patterns within our physical and emotional bodies. Releasing theses patterns most often happens when the body has chance to move and express itself thereby unwinding the original injury or trauma. Unwinding allows us to experience new awarenesses and expansion on both the physical and emotional plane. Unwinding occurs when the client is ready and feels safe and supported in this very unique process of letting go.

What happens after a MFR session?

It’s important to remember that your session doesn't end once you’re off the table. MFR is a unique treatment and can access deep into our subconscious so healing can be felt in many ways. You may feel great after your treatment, or in some cases the pain or symptoms may feel worst, this is just our body’s natural way of healing itself, it’s known as a “healing crisis” and should subside after 24-28 hrs or there may be muscle soreness or emotional sensitivity, everyone heals in their own unique way.
